Combination machine tap from BAER

Whether it's an office job or the daily routine of a craftsman, efficient work is considered the ultimate in all areas. It is primarily a question of efficiency, i.e. of using resources intelligently. The most valuable resource today is time. So to work efficiently as a craftsman, you have to be fast and thorough - quite a tall order. Good thing there are tools to help you with this task.

Tapping usually requires several steps to achieve a clean result that meets high quality standards. First, you need to pre-drill a core hole with a twist drill, then change the tool and use the screw tap to produce the actual thread. This requires a number of operations that can take quite a bit of time.

The solution comes in the form of the combination machine tap from BAER, which combines tap and twist drill in one tool. This enables you to drill core holes and cut threads in just one step. Because quality must never be neglected, even when working efficiently, you can of course rely on the highest precision with our combination machine taps. As with our other threading tools, we rely on the superior properties of high-speed steel for our combination machine taps. Combined with our decades of experience as a manufacturer of combination machine taps and the utmost care in production, we succeed in offering you tools of absolute quality that are guaranteed never to disappoint.

How it works: the combination machine tap

The special feature of combination machine taps is their head. It combines the features of a twist drill and a screw tap in one tool. As with the twist drill, the tip consists of two cutting edges that meet at a shallow angle. Along the spiral flute, the secondary cutting edges wind around the head, which then gradually changes into a thread profile. Thus, when the drill penetrates the material, the tip first drills the core hole. Subsequently, the threaded part engages and cuts the desired thread into the material. There is no DIN standard for combination machine taps, so we manufacture the tools according to our BAER factory standard.

As with conventional tapping, first select the appropriate size of your combination machine tap and insert it into your cordless or upright drill. Then clamp the workpiece securely. To prevent slipping, you should also center punch it at the appropriate point. Apply some cutting paste as lubricant to the combination machine tap. Now you can apply the tool. The tip of the combination machine tap creates the core hole, working at a higher speed. Before the threaded part of the combination machine tap now starts working, you should reduce the speed. Then turn the tool counterclockwise out of the finished thread and test with a screw whether everything fits.

For which applications is the combination machine tap suitable?

Efficient combination tools have it about them that they tend to be designed for general use and are less likely to be used for specific purposes. The combination machine tap is no exception. It can only be used to produce through-hole threads with a depth corresponding to the nominal diameter (for combination bit taps) or corresponding to twice the nominal diameter (for combination machine taps). You can machine materials of low strength.

The combination machine tap is an all-rounder that will pay dividends in your toolbox. It may not be the best choice for every application, but where it comes into its own, it shines with its outstanding properties. So buying a combination machine tap is worthwhile in any case, especially if you work mobile and do not produce threads in series. Especially a combination bit tap can provide enormous time savings and flexibility here in combination with a cordless cordless screwdriver.

You can buy combination machine taps in our Online-Shop for screw tap. Choose the right size from the range M 3 to M 12. Cut precise threads in materials of medium strength such as unalloyed and alloyed steel up to 600 N/mm², malleable cast iron, nodular cast iron, copper, brass, aluminum, aluminum-magnesium alloy, zinc alloys, red brass, electron and zinc die casting with the combination machine tap from BAER. Due to the square shank, you can use the drill in any standard floor-standing or bench drill. Machines with switchable speeds are particularly suitable, as the tapping operation should be carried out at a lower speed than the core hole drilling.

Combi-bit taps with hexagonal shank for use in cordless drills and hand drills are particularly easy and flexible to use. The advantages of the combination tool go wonderfully hand in hand here with the dynamics of the moving machine. So you can reach even difficult places with ease and do not spend more time and energy than absolutely necessary. Steel, non-ferrous metals and plastics (up to 600 N/mm² tensile strength) can be machined. When using the machine manually, you only have to pay special attention that the tool axis and hole axis are actually aligned so that you can cut a straight, well-functioning thread.
