Buttress Thread 45° DIN 2781

The DIN 2781 buttress thread is a special form of a buttress thread, specifically designed for use in hydraulic presses. Buttress threads are generally characterized by their unique profile, which, unlike most other thread types, is asymmetrical and resembles a saw tooth. As a motion thread, it is excellently suited for one-sided axial loads and is often used in spindles of presses. The DIN 2781 buttress thread was designed to prevent the creation of bursting force in the nut, which is particularly important for heavy press columns that often have to be split.

Unlike the metric buttress thread, the DIN 2781 buttress thread has a flank angle of 45°. The load-bearing flank is completely perpendicular to the axis, so there is no division of the flank angle as in other buttress threads. The DIN 2781 45° buttress thread is a metric thread, with all dimensions and pitch given in mm.

The thread designation consists of the abbreviation S, the external diameter in mm, and the pitch in mm, e.g., S 125 x 5.
