Buttress Thread DIN 514
The DIN 514 buttress thread is the fine thread variant of the metric buttress thread according to DIN 513. buttress threads are distinguished by their asymmetrical profile, reminiscent of the teeth of a saw blade. This makes them particularly resistant to high, one-sided axial loads. Buttress threads are primarily used as motion threads, e.g., in hydraulic presses, lifting equipment, or for collets in lathes and milling machines.
The DIN 514 buttress thread has a flank angle of 33°, occasionally also specified as 30°/3°. This notation describes the angle between an imaginary line perpendicular to the axis and the load-bearing flank (3°) or non-load-bearing flank (30°). The DIN 514 buttress thread is a metric thread, with external diameter and pitch given in mm.
The thread designation arises from the abbreviation S, the nominal size, and the pitch in mm, for example, S 22 x 3.
The thread table for the DIN 514 buttress thread contains a wide range of thread dimensions, from S 12 x 2 to S 620 x 24. Other measures in the table below include the external diameter and the core hole diameter. We are happy to manufacture custom dies and taps for the DIN 514 buttress thread upon request.
