Model Engineer Thread
The Model Engineer thread is a British thread used in model making. It is not commercially used in this area, and screws or nuts with Model Engineer thread are not available for purchase. Therefore, metric threads are much more widespread in model building. The Model Engineer thread is mainly used for miniature versions of steam boilers on steam engines.
The Model Engineer thread is an inch thread with a 55° flank angle. The thread profile is based on the widely used British Whitworth thread, but the pitch in the Model Engineer thread is constant, varying only between 40 and 32 threads per inch.
The thread designation begins with the abbreviation ME, which stands for Model Engineer, followed by the external diameter in inches, e.g., ME 3/16″.
In the thread table for the Model Engineer thread, you will find all necessary measurements in inches and converted into the metric equivalent. Besides external diameter and pitch, the core hole diameter for the Model Engineer thread is also listed. We are happy to manufacture dies and taps for the Model Engineer thread as a custom order!
