Sharp “V” Thread
The sharp “V” thread is an obsolete thread form from the USA, no longer used since the early 20th century. While modern sharp threads always have some flattening or rounding at the "tip," the term for the sharp “V” thread must be taken literally. It is indeed an absolutely sharp-pointed thread profile. Because the sharp “V” thread form proved not only difficult to produce but also very susceptible to damage, it was abandoned in favor of modern American sharp thread types.
The sharp “V” thread is an inch thread with a 60° flank angle. As a historical thread type, the sharp “V” thread has no set thread designation, but individual dimensions can be distinguished based on the external diameter.
In the thread table for the sharp “V” thread, you will see the external diameter in inches and mm, the pitch in threads per inch and converted into a metric value, and the core hole diameter in mm. Should you need dies or taps for the sharp “V” thread, we are happy to manufacture them for you upon request.
