STUB ACME Trapezoidal Thread (USA)
The STUB ACME thread is a variant of the American trapezoidal thread. As a motion thread, it serves to transmit movements, e.g., in the form of a threaded spindle. The STUB ACME thread is merely a modification of the standard ACME thread. The only difference between the two thread types lies in the thread depth, which is why the STUB ACME is also referred to as a shallow trapezoidal thread. While the thread depth of the standard ACME thread is half the distance between two thread peaks, it is only about one-third for the STUB ACME. The STUB ACME is used when there is not enough space for the full thread depth, and the flattened profile does not pose a risk.
The STUB ACME thread is an inch thread with a flank angle of 29°. The pitch is given in threads per inch.
The thread designation of the STUB ACME thread consists of the external diameter in inches, the pitch in threads per inch, and the addition of STUB ACME. Since the external diameter and pitch are identical for the two variants of the ACME thread, the abbreviation is particularly important as a distinguishing feature in this case. The correct thread designation is, for example, 1/2″ – 10 STUB ACME.
The thread table for the STUB ACME thread is identical to that of the standard ACME thread. It contains the external diameter of the ACME thread in inches and mm, the pitch in mm and in threads per inch, and the core hole diameter in mm. We are happy to manufacture dies and taps for the STUB ACME thread upon request.
