Whitworth Fine Thread DIN LON 282
The Whitworth Fine Thread DIN LON 282 is a historical thread type, no longer in use today. Its primary application was in locomotive construction, especially for ceiling studs, bracket anchor studs, and firebox studs made of steel. It was standardized according to German Locomotive Standards LON 282 or DIN 282. The Whitworth Fine Thread DIN LON 282 has not been used since the mid-1970s and should not be confused with the still widely used Whitworth Fine Thread BS 84.
The flank angle of the Whitworth Fine Thread DIN LON 282 is 55°. The pitch is measured in threads per inch, consistently at 12.
The thread designation is composed of the external diameter and the pitch in the form of 1/12″, e.g., W 30 x 1/12″.
In the thread table for the Whitworth Fine Thread DIN LON 282, alongside the core diameter, the core cross-section in cm² is also listed. Some thread sizes are set in brackets; these should only be used for repairs. If you need dies or taps for the Whitworth Fine Thread according to DIN LON 282, we are happy to manufacture them for you upon request.
