Whitworth Fine Thread DIN LON 286

The Whitworth Fine Thread DIN LON 286 is an obsolete thread type from locomotive construction, used until about 1975. It is standardized according to DIN (30)286 or German Locomotive Standards LON 286. Note, this is not the still commonly used Whitworth Fine Thread BS 84.

The Whitworth Fine Thread DIN LON 286 has a flank angle of 55°. The pitch is measured in threads per inch, consistently at 10. A common abbreviation for the Whitworth Fine Thread DIN LON 286 is therefore W-10 Gg.
