Whitworth Fine Thread DIN LON Special

The Whitworth Fine Thread DIN LON Special is a special form of the historical Whitworth locomotive thread. It is standardized according to German Locomotive Standards LON (30)293 or DIN 30284. For repair work, sizes from the DIN standard should be used. The Whitworth Fine Thread DIN LON special has not been in use since around 1975. It should not be confused with the Whitworth Fine Thread according to BS 84.

The Whitworth Fine Thread DIN LON special has a flank angle of 55°.

The thread designation is derived from the external diameter and the pitch in the form of 1/12″, also mentioning the DIN standard, e.g., W 14 x 1/12″ DIN 30284.

Listed are the core diameter and core cross-section in cm², as well as the pitch in threads per inch and mm. Additionally, there is a special thread for firefighting connections in locomotive construction according to DIN LON 293, with the size Sg 56 x 3.75 LON 293.
